The Awakening Together Board of Directors has approved a change in how we will offer in-person retreats and gatherings beginning in 2027.
After completing the retreats already scheduled for the 2026 season, Awakening Together will no longer operate an ongoing schedule of retreats at the La Veta Retreat House. Instead, we will move toward a more flexible model of annual or occasional gatherings held at rented venues chosen to fit each event.
This change does not mean that we are moving away from gathering in person. It gives us the freedom to consider different locations, experiences, and formats based on the interests and needs of our community. Future opportunities may include pilgrimages, Sangha-led retreats, leadership gatherings, destination retreats, and other possibilities that emerge through our shared discernment.
This decision follows some years of declining registration for Retreat House programs, increasing difficulty maintaining a stable caretaker model, and the year-round expense and operational work required to maintain a permanent facility. We believe a flexible approach will allow us to continue offering meaningful in-person experiences while practicing responsible stewardship of Awakening Together’s resources.
The Retreat House has been a sacred and meaningful place in the life of our community. It has supported spiritual practice, deep healing, friendship, and connection. It also provided a setting in which Regina developed and shared curricula that continue to support our community today. We are deeply grateful for all that has occurred there and for everyone who has helped care for the property and serve those who visited it.
No final decision has yet been made about the future of the property itself. The Board has authorized an assessment. This assessment will include market, financial, legal, and property considerations. A final recommendation will be presented to the Board after that information has been gathered.
The Trustees will soon begin exploring what kinds of in-person opportunities Awakening Together might provide in 2027 and beyond. These gatherings will depend upon volunteers who are willing to help develop, organize, and manage them.
