Reflections from the Sangha Led Yoga Infused Silent Retreat

We recently completed the first in person Sangha-led retreat at the Awakening Together Retreat House in La Veta, CO. This yoga-infused silent retreat offered a lovely balance of structure, quiet presence, and personal space. Many of us came without specific goals beyond simply being there, and the retreat created a gentle environment for exactly that. The days flowed naturally between guided yoga, group and individual meditation, silent walks, crafts, and generous periods of individual contemplative time. There was something especially meaningful about having uninterrupted space to sit quietly, unplug from daily routines, and simply be.

The atmosphere felt light and supportive. Having meals prepared, few distractions, and a relaxed structure made it easy to settle into stillness. Activities like the simple crafts offered encouraged a meditative focus and quiet attention. Even for those who had never been drawn to crafts before, there was enjoyment in the concentration and challenge of the work. Time spent with friends, meeting new caretakers, and sharing silent presence together added warmth to the experience.

At the same time, the retreat highlighted how differently silence can affect each person. While periods of quiet were appreciated, some found themselves longing for more connection and conversation with like-minded people. The evening discussion times became especially valuable as opportunities to process experiences together and reconnect in community.

Rather than dramatic revelations, the retreat offered something quieter: appreciation for rest, stillness, simplicity, and stepping away from routines. Overall, it was a meaningful and restorative experience.
