This in-person, 5 day retreat will be a lived exploration of a simple, life-changing practice: noticing the moment you close—and practicing staying open when life presses on your habitual closing mechanism.
Drawing inspiration from Michael Singer’s teachings on fear, inner disturbance, and being the witness, we’ll learn to recognize how the heart contracts, how the mind rushes in to protect, and how quickly we get pulled out of centered awareness.
Over five days, we’ll practice returning—again and again—to the witness within: the steady place that can feel disturbance without becoming it. Through guided inquiry, silent periods, embodied exercises, nature-based practices, and relational “trigger-point” moments, we’ll learn to meet psychological pain and discomfort as a doorway rather than a warning sign. We’ll explore fear as blocked energy, identify our “inner thorns,” and experiment with the radical alternative to avoidance: letting the energy move through without acting it out, suppressing it, or building your life around it.
The aim isn’t to create a perfectly calm week—it’s to become intimate with the exact mechanics of suffering and freedom, so you leave with a practical path: notice, return to awareness, relax the heart, and let go—right when it matters. This is a retreat for anyone ready to stop fighting with life, stop outsourcing inner peace to outer conditions, and discover what it’s like to live from a deeper, freer center.

The retreat fee includes all meals beginning with dinner on Sunday through breakfast on Saturday. There may be an optional dinner out with local Awakening Together friends!
Please note that lodging is separate from the retreat fee. The Retreat House has a limited number of rooms available. There are also local options within walking distance to the Retreat House.
