Here is some information about Dr. Pierce Salguero:
Pierce Salguero, Ph.D., has studied religion and spirituality for most of his life through texts, travel, and deep immersion into practice. As a practitioner, he is most familiar with hathayoga, meditation, shamanic rituals, spirit healing, Thai medicine, and Buddhist philosophy, all of which he has studied for many decades. He is also an avid scholar of religions, holding a BA in anthropology and cognitive science (University of Virginia, 1996), an MA in East Asian studies (University of Virginia, 2005), and a PhD specializing in Buddhist medicine (Johns Hopkins University, 2010). Since earning his doctorate, Dr. Salguero has worked as a professor of Asian history, religions, and healing traditions, and he continues to actively conduct research and publish in all of these areas. With decades of experience exploring religion and spirituality from multiple angles, Dr. Salguero combines immersive practice with academic rigor. He has undertaken transformative spiritual experiences while also training in classical languages, studying historical contexts, and critically examining the limitations of these traditions. He often describes himself as a student, friend, and fan of spirituality—as well as a researcher, skeptic, and critic. This website distills the lessons from a lifetime of spiritual exploration into a format that is accessible and engaging for contemporary seekers.
Although Dr. Salguero does not offer personalized guidance or support, he does participate in interactive Q&A through the Multidharma Facebook group and occasionally offers in-person talks, meetings, and other events.
