Join us for a new program, Mindful Movement with Yoga facilitated by Jane Sobel. The debut will be Wednesday, March 1st from 8:30-9 pm ET/6:30-7 pm MT. This will be a monthly half-hour direct practice where we get to practice together.
Whether you are a seasoned or newbie yogi, you are invited to join this 30 min introductory level yin yoga practice. Yin yoga is based on the Taoist concept of yin and yang – opposite and complementary principles in nature.
Yin is known as a quiet practice and teaches stillness. It is a slow-paced (no sweat) style of yoga composed of long-held poses done while seated on the floor. In contrast to more active yang styles of yoga, Yin is practiced with muscles relaxed as we are targeting the connective tissues primarily in the hips, pelvis, and lower spine.
This short class will give you an opportunity to discover how the practice benefits you physically & energetically. This class is not recommended if you have any injuries or are recovering from one. Yin will help you maintain or improve your current range of motion, but is not intended to be therapy.
What you can expect: We will begin each session with a moment of silence to mindfully arrive in the space. We will then move through about 20 minutes of yoga asana (postures) and end with savasana (relaxation pose).
What you will need: Please wear something warm and comfortable. We will not be working up a sweat, so cozy socks are great too! Have a blanket nearby for our closing relaxation pose (savasana). Props like yoga blocks and a bolster are helpful if you have them, but not necessary. If you have a firm cushion or two that will work just as well.
Jane is a Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga Teacher and certified in Yin Yoga.
