Joy Bedford made this playsheet for us to contemplate this month’s movie.
Plan to join us for a discussion of this month’s movie, Mr. Church, on Sunday, November 27th at 8 pm ET/6 pm MT. Joy Bedford will be facilitating this month’s movie discussion.
Mr. Church is the story of a unique friendship that develops when a young girl and her dying mother are gifted the cooking services of Henry Joseph Church played by Eddie Murphy. A six-month arrangement unfolds into a lifelong friendship. A few of the many themes include childlike resistance and acceptance (in all ages), the generous opening to receiving grace, and giving richly but yet in a way that is from a walled-off and hidden place. More themes that are uncovered in the movie include how unhealed pain and unworthiness seep out even with the best of intentions of keeping it hidden. In the end, we get to see how eventually this all leads to a full opening into Love’s Presence and the amazing ability to being able to be fully alive living in the present.
