Today\u2019s workbook lesson tells us that we think pain and suffering buy us something, something that we want. If we are not perfectly happy, this belief is in our mind. It may not seem that way. It could even feel offensive if someone tells us that we are unhappy because we think unhappiness will get us something that we want, but it\u2019s true.<\/p>\n
One example: When we are unhappy with the government or its policies, we think enough unhappiness like ours will generate the change we want to see.<\/p>\n
Some of you may have thought, \u201cWell, yea!\u201d when you read that. There might even be a fear that if you aren\u2019t unhappy, the change you want will never happen.<\/p>\n
This belief that unhappiness will get us what we want is a deeply held belief, and it is completely screwed up. The only thing this belief does is keep us from being happy when we could be happy. Metaphysically, that\u2019s more sinister than it may sound since our energy goes out and paints the world we see.<\/p>\n
If you want the world to be a happier more secure place, offer it a happier more secure person. Give what you want to see by being what you want to see.<\/p>\n
In Chapter 15 of \u201cThe Untethered Soul,\u201d Michael Singer wrote:<\/p>\n
\u201c[Unconditional happiness] leads you to absolute transcendence because any part of your being that would add a condition to your commitment to happiness has to go. \u2026 You have to transcend the personal, and as you do, you will naturally awaken to the higher aspects of your being.\u201d<\/p>\n
Happiness is the way to contribute to a better world, and happiness is the path to enlightenment. If you are not choosing to be happy now, there must be something else that you think you want. What is it?<\/p>\n
Don\u2019t simply read this and say, \u201cUh-huh,\u201d or click Like. Read this and look. Whenever you are not happy, you think you can get something from not being happy. What is it that you think unhappiness will get you?<\/p>\n
Will people start acting the way you want them to act?
\nWill people give you attention that you want?
\nWill God grant your wishes like a genie?
\nWill your thoughts quit coming?
\nWill you quit making mistakes?
\nWill your health get better?
\nWill someone love you?<\/p>\n
Just what do you think you have to gain by being unhappy? What is the hidden desire that unhappiness is chartered with resolving? AND can you see that it is not your true desire? Are you willing to let it go, and simply be happy ???<\/p>\n
Be happy even if people act differently than you would have them act. Be happy even if you don\u2019t get attention from others. Be happy even if your wishes are not granted. Be happy even if the same thoughts keep coming in your mind. Be happy even if you make mistakes. Be happy even if the body isn\u2019t healthy. Be happy even if someone chooses not to love you.<\/p>\n
