A primary focus in <em>The Teachings of Inner Ramana <\/em>is letting go of mental chatter. When one lets go of mental chatter, she completes the sixth step of the seven steps to awakening. The sixth step is:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Letting go of perception, which is letting go of thought as me.<\/p>\n<p><em>Note: For a thorough review of all seven steps, see <a href=\"https:\/\/awakening-together.org\/dev2\/day-284-tip\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Day 284<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>When one lets go of perception, one awakens to true perception. With true perception, the body\u2019s eyes still see what everyone else\u2019s eyes see, but clarity knows that what it looks on is consciousness.<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s reading says:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Mind cannot be ignored entirely.<\/p>\n<p>In this context, \u201cmind\u201d does not refer to mental chatter. Mind refers to the brain&#8217;s ability to interpret.<\/p>\n<p>On <a href=\"https:\/\/awakening-together.org\/dev2\/tips-regina-day-22-nti-matthew-24\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Day 22<\/a>,\u00a0we learned about the connection between the brain\u2019s ability to interpret and our ability to see objects. Here is a quote that we contemplated that day:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u201cVision consists of your eyes detecting\u00a0light and converting it to electro-chemical impulses in neurons which are then given meaning by your brain.\u00a0\u00a0 Hence, the real \u2018seeing\u2019 occurs in the brain with the interpretation of the impulses. ~ Debbie Hampton, author of <em>Beat Depression and Anxiety by Changing your Brain<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In order to live as a human in a world, even within the experience of true perception, some mental interpretation is necessary.<\/p>\n<p>However, mental interpretation is not knowledge. As today\u2019s reading says, knowledge is \u201cbeyond the mind.\u201d In other words, when one has the experience of human, but knows that he is life-awareness, he has knowledge. When one has the experience of human and believes he is a human, he is deluded.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Teachings of Inner Ramana \u00a0<\/em>begins by giving us two tools. These tools enable us to live as humans while totally ignoring mental chatter. The two tools are:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Mantra<br \/>\nSurrender<\/p>\n<p>We have looked at both the mantra and surrender as taught in <em>The Teachings of Inner Ramana \u00a0<\/em>since Gentle Healing Year 1. However, now we will start to use these tools in our daily life with great emphasis.<\/p>\n<p>The mantra is \u201cI Am That I Am.\u201d We were introduced to this mantra through the <em>Thoughts of Awakening<\/em>\u00a0 on Day 230. Here is that Thought of Awakening again:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">&#8220;I am that I am&#8221;<br \/>\nis open.<br \/>\nIt is as open as the sky.<br \/>\nIt has no end.<br \/>\nIt continues forever.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">This is the best idea of you.<br \/>\nThis is the truth<br \/>\nwithout definition.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Do not put thought to this idea.<br \/>\nMerely let it be thought,<br \/>\nrepeated,<br \/>\nby the mind.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">And after it is thought,<br \/>\nrest the mind without thinking,<br \/>\nand then let this thought<br \/>\nbe thought again.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">~From our Holy Spirit<\/p>\n<p>The Thought of Awakening on Day 231 also referred to the mantra:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">I have asked you<br \/>\nto rest the mind.<br \/>\nThis is not a little request.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">To rest the mind frequently<br \/>\nwill bring the most insight.<br \/>\nTo rest it little<br \/>\nwill bring the least.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The mantra<br \/>\n&#8220;I am that I am&#8221;<br \/>\nis a gift of awakening.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Cherish it as a gift,<br \/>\nand you give love<br \/>\nto your reality.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">~From our Holy Spirit<\/p>\n<p>Today, begin to practice the mantra as regularly as you can. Realize that the purpose of the mantra is to help you ignore mental chatter and rest in silence.<\/p>\n<p>You will learn about surrender in the next two days.
