“If I pay careful attention I can recognize this desire to project an image. Its characteristics are subtle but detectable. There is the thought of ‘others’ and how they view ‘me’ inherent in image-projection.” ~ Regina Dawn Akers

Allow the Teaching to Work on You
Regina Dawn Akers, minister, reflects on a respected spiritual teacher’s story about reflecting on the teaching. When we listen to his story, we might realize how we can let the teachings work more deeply on us.

Quote from Bentinho Massaro:
Look around you, and marvel at how much importance people give to insignificant things, and how rarely they consider the truly significant things.
Chit-chat, chit-chat.
Distraction here, distraction there.
Marvel at it, giggle rudely or compassionately (either way), and resolve to never drown in the human condition to that degree yourself.
Then love yourself, and them, as a perfect expression of The One.

“The ability to perceive differences and to discern one thing from another is one of the most valuable tools you can have. It is one of the most valuable tools you can have both for your spiritual progress and for how to live in the worldly life.” ~ Michael Langford

“What is it to ‘really want’ something? When one is falling in love, one really wants the person of his/her affection. One wants to be with that person all of the time. When one cannot be with that person, one is thinking about him/her. I can use this example as a symbol to gauge my desire for awakening. Am I in love with this purpose so that I want, more than anything, to sit in meditation and contemplation with it? When I have to be away doing other things, am I thinking of my purpose? Am I looking forward to the time when I can be fully immersed with it again?” ~ Regina Dawn Akers

“I can trust this world, because it is an illusion. The world is not real like it appears to be. The world is a temporary and changing appearance brought about through the power of desire. This is why I can trust the world. As I fine-tune my desire, ensuring that the power of desire is behind only the purpose to awaken, the world and the mysterious force that is behind it, responds by answering the call of my one true desire. I know this to be true.” ~ Regina Dawn Akers

Jay McCormick was our minister this Sunday. His topic “Specialness is not the substitute for love”
Is love extended from the separate self or from the acknowledgement of union ? Jay discusses that the extension of love includes our brothers and sisters in equality and unity. “Making someone feel special” is the primary way that the ego practices love but that specialness stands on very shaky ground and only the being/is-ness of love can be experienced in true recognition of sameness, not difference. Lets explore how we can heal our minds together and join in love.

“Oftentimes, when we get into a period of confusion and distortion, it is simply because we have generated too much space to think too much about ourselves and our circumstances and we get all wrapped up in out-of-alignment thinking.” ~ Bentinho Massaro

“You cannot help the world from a place of biased perception. In order to truly tap into a higher state of love and service, you need to be able to let go of your own opinion and see the full range of points of view available in any given scenario. When you can see from many different points of view and understand them all, you have attained a higher level of unbiased perception and a finer balance of Love and Wisdom, from which your service can be pure and true.” ~ Bentinho Massaro
