This month’s movie discussion group will be facilitated by Ron Raitz.

Join us for the discussion of this movie starring Jack Black as Hal Larsen, a shallow man rapidly approaching middle age whose superficiality can be attributed to his father’s deathbed admonition to only date young, beautiful women. Hal and his best friend, Mauricio (Jason Alexander), have taken the advice to heart, but Hal finds all of his physically impressive girlfriends consistently lacking in other qualities that would make them ideal mates. When he bumps into self-help guru Tony Robbins (playing himself), the motivational entrepreneur is intrigued by Hal’s predicament and hypnotizes him so that he’ll only see the inner beauty of women. Hal is quickly smitten with Rosemary Shanahan (Gwyneth Paltrow), a blonde Peace Corps volunteer who’s tenderhearted, funny, and intelligent. She is also gorgeous and meets Hal’s basic criteria of outer perfection, but what he doesn’t realize is that Robbins’ spell is working and he cannot see that Rosemary actually weights 300 pounds. When Mauricio is finally able to snap Hal out of his charmed state, Hal’s in love with the inwardly perfect woman and must overcome his obsession with beauty.

Rev. Jacquelyn Eckert will interview Natalie Gray for our Awakening Together Guest Satsang.

When asked for her biography, Natalie wrote:

“I’m an ordinary being who spent a good part of my childhood and the first 25 years of this adult life searching for meaning and answers. This seeking took many forms including: practicing Catholicism, trying to find a calling (as an actress, teacher and life coach), attending self-help and awareness seminars, study and initiation with various spiritual teachers and teachings and using drugs. After coming to the realization that no one or no thing outside of me was going to provide the answers, an intense internal search for the truth ensued. “The end of seeking” occurred in 2010. There were no more questions. There was no more need for answers. What was sought had been found.

2020 Retreats are Open for Registration

November 13, 2019 By Regina Dawn Akers

2020 Retreats at the Awakening Together Retreat House

These retreats are held at the Awakening Together Retreat House in La Veta, Colorado.

Note: Lodging is not included in the retreat fee. Participants may stay at the Retreat House or at another local lodging venue.

2020 Retreats:

Starting the New Year: Resolving for Truth, January 20-24, Monday, 10am to Friday, 3pm – In the tradition of the New Year’s resolution, start the new year by determining a spiritual vision for 2020 and devising a realistic plan for achieving that vision. We will begin with your highest spiritual purpose—the spiritual aspiration, determine the best next steps for you specifically towards achieving that purpose, and then break those steps down into achievable spiritual objectives that you will be able to master in 2020. The process used is both practical and intuitive, guided completely by inner spiritual intuition. Expect to receive help with your individual spiritual obstacles. Facilitated by Regina Dawn Akers. Includes lunch daily & dinner Monday-Wednesday. Retreat fee $245; $200 if you lodge at the Retreat House. $50 non-refundable deposit. Register.

Self-Inquiry Retreat, February 17-21, Monday, 10am to Friday, 3pm – This retreat is based on the teaching of Indian sage, Ramana Maharshi. At this retreat, you will learn the subtleties of self-inquiry. You will participate in guided self-inquiry, meditative self-inquiry, self-inquiry with a partner, journaling based on self-inquiry, and you will contemplate and discuss quotes by Ramana Maharshi. The purpose of the retreat is to help you make advances in the process self-inquiry in a very short time, so when you go home from the retreat, you will be able to use self-inquiry more effectively to abide in the true Self and detach from the false self. Each participant will receive a book of Ramana Maharshi quotes about self-inquiry. Facilitated by Regina Dawn Akers. Includes lunch daily & dinner Monday-Wednesday. Retreat fee $245, $200 if you lodge at the Retreat House. $50 non-refundable deposit. Register.

Letting Go of Fear, March 27-29, Friday, 9am to Sunday, 4pm – When we asked you what retreats you wanted offered in 2020, the most requested retreat was Letting Go of Fear. Fear can be experienced in a lot of ways. It may feel like uneasiness or angst, which blocks your ability to relax fully; it can be experienced as nervousness, apprehension or excessive worry; it may be experienced as absolute terror. Fear can also be repressed and experienced as other emotions, such as frustration or anger. In any case, fear distorts your perception and your ability to think clearly with the right mind.  At this retreat, you will come to understand the cause of fear and learn how you can become free of fear. Facilitated by Regina Dawn Akers. Includes lunch daily & dinner Friday & Saturday. Retreat fee $150, $120 if you lodge at the Retreat House. Register.
Note: Optional outing on Thursday, Mar 26, $25, includes lunch.

Spring Retreat – Attend one or both retreats:

Freedom from the Judge, April 24-26, Friday, 9am to Sunday, 4pm – ‘There is nothing more important to true growth than realizing that you are not the voice of the mind – you are the one who hears it.’ ~ Michael Singer. Whether we realize it or not, our lives are structured around pleasing what might be called our internal “judge” (aka, the ego or internal critic). In this retreat, we will learn to identify the judge, which is nothing more than a cluster of ideas, standards and beliefs. We will look at how this cluster of thought directs our actions, attention and aspirations. You will learn to recognize that the voice of the judge is not your voice and learn how hearing this voice as “other” is helpful in discovering you are not your thoughts. We will also examine the ways in which we engage the judge even though we are attempting to disengage and, we will practice disengaging from the judge as a prerequisite to abiding in no-self. Facilitated by Jacquelyn Eckert. Includes lunch daily & dinner Friday & Saturday. Retreat fee $150, $120 if you lodge at the Retreat House. $50 non-refundable deposit. Register.

Releasing the ‘I Am Bad’ Belief, April 27-May 1, Monday, 10am to Friday, 3pm – A Course in Miracles calls it “guilt.” The Holy Spirit’s Interpretation of the New Testament (NTI) calls it “unworthiness.” Regina Dawn Akers simply calls it the “I am bad” belief. No matter what you call it, it is an untrue belief, most likely adopted in early childhood, which drives actions and reactions in nearly all humans. People make life decisions that they wouldn’t otherwise make because of this belief’s influence. This belief is the primary cause of stress, annoyance, anger, jealousy and other types of mental and emotional suffering. If you release this one belief, your life will be happier, and you will feel much freer than you do with the belief. This retreat will focus solely on how to release the ‘I am bad’ belief. If you come, you will learn what you need to learn to be set free! Facilitated by Regina Dawn Akers. Includes lunch daily & dinner Monday-Wednesday. Retreat fee $245, $200 if you lodge at the Retreat House. $50 non-refundable deposit. Register.

Responsibility for Sight, May 15-17, Friday, 9am to Sunday, 4pm – You are responsible for what you see, how you respond, and how you feel. It is only by consciously taking full responsibility for your experience that you learn you are, indeed, responsible for the world you see. Until we let go of our habitual ways of being, thinking, feeling and responding, we will continue to have the experiences that must surely follow from a limited view of ourselves, others and the world we live in. In this retreat, participants will learn to identify habitual patterns that prevent them from experiencing the simple truth about themselves. Participants will examine the blocks to surrender of self-will and learn fun and creative ways to practice surrender in their daily lives. Facilitated by Jacquelyn Eckert, Includes lunch daily& dinner Friday & Saturday. Retreat fee $150, $120 if you lodge at the Retreat House. $50 non-refundable deposit. Register.
Note: Optional outing available on Thursday, May 14, $25, includes lunch.

Mini Silence & Satsang Retreat, June 12-14, Friday, 9am to Sunday, 4pm – The purpose of this retreat is to help you take your next step with God (with Truth), whatever that next step may be for you. This retreat is for everyone on a spiritual path or embarking on a spiritual path, regardless of your current level of skill, insight or awareness. At this retreat you will have ample time to go within through reading, contemplation, journaling and meditation while also having the opportunity to sit with Jacquelyn Eckert in question and answer sessions each day. Private, personal guidance will be available for anyone who feels assistance is needed to reach a deeper quality of Truth/God awareness. Through rotating periods of silence and purposeful conversation, you will have the opportunity to probe deeper into spiritual intuition, emerging from your exploration with greater clarity and insight. Facilitated by Jacquelyn Eckert. Includes lunch daily& dinner Friday and Saturday. Retreat fee $150, $120 if you lodge at the Retreat House. $50 non-refundable deposit. Register.
Note: Optional outing on Thursday, June 11, $25, includes lunch.

Loving Consciousness, Loving All, June 22-26, Monday, 10am-Friday, 3pm – The Loving Consciousness Method of mediation and the Loving All Method practice were developed by Michael Langford as Direct Path practices that will help you awaken (end the ego illusion) in this lifetime. At this retreat, we will practice the Loving Consciousness Method and the Loving All Method extensively using directions written by Michael Langford. We will also contemplate quotes selected by Michael Langford to support the practice of Loving Consciousness and Loving All. Each participant will receive a book with instructions by Michael Langford designed specifically for this retreat. Facilitated by Regina Dawn Akers. Includes lunch daily & dinner Monday-Wednesday. Retreat fee $245, $200 if you lodge at the Retreat House. $50 non-refundable deposit. Register.

4-day Releasing ‘I Am Bad’ Belief, July 7-10, Tuesday, 9am to Friday, 3pm – A Course in Miracles calls it “guilt.” The Holy Spirit’s Interpretation of the New Testament (NTI) calls it “unworthiness.” Regina Dawn Akers simply calls it the “I am bad” belief. If you come, you will learn what you need to learn to be set free! Facilitated by Regina Dawn Akers. Includes lunch daily & dinner Tuesday-Wednesday. Retreat fee $190, $160 if you lodge at the Retreat House. $50 non-refundable deposit. Register.

In the World But Not of It: Embodying Truth, July 20-24, Monday, 10am to Friday, 3pm – Peace Pilgrim once said, “It took the living quite a while to catch up with the believing, but of course it can, and now if I believe something, I live it.” Nisargadatta Maharaj said, “Intellectually, you have understood, but you have to be one with it; you have to identify with what you have understood.” At this retreat, you will learn to live from the spiritual knowledge that you believe and trust. You will look at what you value, assess if your values are aligned with your spiritual desire, and then learn how to bring your values and spiritual desire together into one strong foundation that you actually live, speak and act from. Facilitated by Regina Dawn Akers. Includes lunch daily & dinner Monday-Wednesday. Retreat fee $245, $200 if you lodge at the Retreat House. $50 non-refundable deposit. Register.

Self-Inquiry Retreat, August 3-7, Monday, 10am to Friday, 3pm – This retreat is based on the teaching of Indian sage, Ramana Maharshi. Includes lunch daily & dinner Monday-Wednesday. Retreat fee $245, $200 if you lodge at the Retreat House. $50 non-refundable deposit. Register.

Hiking, Silence & Satsang, August 17-21, Monday, 9am to Friday, 5pm – This is a very active retreat with daily hikes in the Colorado mountains. Physical fitness and proper equipment (hiking boots/shoes, day pack, at least two water bottles, and rain gear) is required.  Participants are encouraged to arrive in Colorado by Saturday, August 15 in order to acclimate to the higher altitude before the first hike on Monday. The hikes will begin easy and get progressively more challenging as the week goes on, but will not require technical mountain climbing skills. Anyone who participates in a regular exercise routine and loves the outdoors should do well at this retreat. The hikes are led by a fit 60-year old woman, so you can count on a moderate hiking pace. Daily meditation, contemplation and spiritual discussion are an important part of the retreat. Expect to rise early on Tuesday through Friday. Facilitated by Regina Dawn Akers.  Includes lunch daily & dinner Monday-Wednesday. Retreat fee $245, $200 if you lodge at the Retreat House. $50 non-refundable deposit. Hal Seeley, Our Chairman of the Board, Has Passed Away ~ Memorial Service on Sunday Following the Weekly Gathering

November 11, 2019 By Regina Dawn Akers

Our beloved Chairman of the Board, Rev. Hal Seeley, passed away on Saturday, November 9, after experiencing a stroke several days earlier. Hal is shown above standing next to the Cucharas River during his first trip to La Veta, Colorado.

In addition to being an AT Minister and our current Chairman of the Board, Hal built the partitions that create three semi-private rooms in the Ladies’ Dorm at the Retreat House.

Awakening Together will hold a memorial service for Hal in the Awakening Together Sanctuary immediately following the Weekly Gathering this coming Sunday, November 17. The memorial service will begin at at 11:30am ET. We hope you will be able to attend.

Freedom from the Ego Retreat ~ December 9-13

November 9, 2019 By Regina Dawn Akers

The Last Retreat of 2019

Freedom from the Ego Retreat

December 9-13, 2019
with Regina Dawn Akers
at the
Awakening Together Retreat House
in La Veta, Colorado

Last Opportunity to Use Your Free Nights* for a Retreat at the Retreat House

To the degree that you are unaware of ego, you are a slave to ego. It speaks in your mind as you, and you think it is you, so you talk, feel and act based on its deception. The way to become free of ego is, first and foremost, to become aware of its cunning messages.

At this retreat, you will learn to see how the ego tricks you into living from its guidance instead of from spiritual intuition. When you leave this retreat, you will see the ego more clearly than you did before. That will provide you with the opportunity to disregard ego, which is how you free yourself from it.

This retreat is led by Regina Dawn Akers. Regina will emphasize skills that help you transcend ego and recognize inner wisdom as the Voice that makes you happy.

Retreat Schedule

The retreat will begin at 10am on Monday, December 9 and end at 3pm on Friday, December 13. We recommend arriving in La Veta on or before Sunday, December 8 and departing on or after Saturday, December 14.

Join us for our Awakening Together Satsang with Natalie Gray, November 17, 7:30 pm ET

November 8, 2019 By Jacquelyn Eckert

Rev. Jacquelyn Eckert will interview Natalie Gray for our Awakening Together Guest Satsang on November 17, 2019 at 7:30 pm ET/4:30 pm PT.

I have been married for 20 years, I do voiceover work for a living, I had a cat until she died last year, I am currently in remission from breast cancer, and I work a 12-step program.

Along with some YouTube videos and a few blog entries, I have mostly shared my experience and insights through one-on-one conversations. It has been nine years since the end of seeking occurred. There has been no shift or change in the perspective I gained then—a clear understanding of what has always been true.”
