Natural Meditation Retreat ~ Feb 18-22 at the AT Retreat House

January 13, 2019 By Regina Dawn Akers

Natural Meditation Retreat

February 18-22, 2019
with Regina Dawn Akers
at the
Awakening Together Retreat House
in La Veta, Colorado

February is the quietest time of year in La Veta, so it is the perfect time to spend a week abiding in stillness with a small group of committed friends.

At this retreat, you will learn to focus on the ‘I am’ presence to the exclusion of all else as taught by Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj and his guru, Sri Siddharameshwar Maharaj.

Using guidance provided through Nisargadatta’s teachings, you will determine the difference between the ‘I am’ presence and the ego, you will observe how the ego attempts to distract you from the ‘I am’ presence, and you will learn to ignore the ego’s distractions so you can follow the direct path to awakening as Nisargadatta did. You will have ample opportunity for meditation, contemplation and journaling on your own, as well as spending time in group instruction, meditation and discussion. We will also explore how you can continue to be motivated to meditate after you go home from this retreat.

Retreat Schedule

The retreat will begin at 10am on Monday, February 18 and end at 3pm on Friday, February 22. We recommend arriving in La Veta on or before Sunday, February 17 and departing on or after Saturday, February 23.

All guests are welcome to stay at the AT Retreat House for up to 28 days. Longer stays are possible with permission.

Retreat Fee: $200.
$50 non-refundable deposit.
Register
Retreat House lodging cost is separate
from the retreat fee.

Introducing This Month’s Movie: Revolver

January 10, 2019 By Jacquelyn Eckert

Join us for Movie Watcher’s  Group on Sunday, January 27  at 8 pm ET / 5 pm PT.   This month’s movie is is a favorite, Revolver, directed by Guy Ritchie. To the casual observer, it seems to be a crime-thriller involving gangs, gambling, cocaine trafficking, a high-stakes heist, murder and revenge. However, to the discerning spiritual student, it is one of the best films ever made about letting go of ego and awakening to pure, undisturbed peace. One spiritual commentator nicknamed Revolver as “The Formula to Enlightenment.” Even if you’ve seen this movie before, we recommend watching it with subtitles on so you don’t miss a thing.

Here is a link to the playsheet designed to assist with a Spirit centered movie watching experience: Revolver PlaySheet

The movie is available on Crackle (free to view), Vudu,  Amazon, Itunes, Google Play, and Youtube.  Watch the movie with Spirit, then come and share your insights with the group.

Registration Open ~ Introduction to the Tao Te Ching

January 10, 2019 By Jacquelyn Eckert

Tao-Te-Ching-Stephen-MitchellThis class is 4 weeks long.

The Tao Te Ching is a Chinese spiritual classic. According to tradition, it was written around 6th century BCE by Chinese sage and governmental record-keeper, Lao Tzu.

Tao means “the way.” Te means “virtue” or “inner strength.” Ching means “great book” or “classic.” So, we can translate Tao Te Ching as “The Great Book of the Way’s Virtue.” However, “virtue” in this context does not refer to virtue as humans typically understand it. In fact, if humans really understood, embraced and lived the virtue of the Tao, appearances like conflict and lack would be impossible.

In this class you will:

1. The participant will become familiar with the classic Chinese work, Tao Te Ching.

2. The participant will contemplate chapters from Tao Te Ching and realize effective leadership.

Class Schedule:

We are offering two class times:

~ On Tuesday afternoons, February 12 – March 5, 2019 from 2:00pm-4:00pm ET (11:00am-1:00pm Pacific). Homework begins February 5. Facilitator: Rev. Connie Frazier.

~ On Thursday afternoons, February 14 – March 7, 2019 from 1:00pm-3:00pm ET (10:00am-12:00pm Pacific). Homework begins February 7. Facilitator: Rev. Carl Lammers.

Specific Information:
Cost is $80.
Textbook needed is Tao Te Ching by Stephen Mitchell.
Registration for the Tuesday class closes on Feburary 3.
Registration for the Thursday class closes on February 5.

When Do 2019 Gentle Healing Groups Begin?

January 9, 2019 By Regina Dawn Akers

New Gentle Healing Groups begin in February.

Gentle Healing Year 1 will be facilitated by Jacquelyn Eckert and Connie Poole. It begins on February 12. It will be held each Tuesday beginning at 7pm ET. The books needed for this group are A Course in Miracles and The Holy Spirit’s Interpretation of the New Testament (NTI). Everyone is invited to join this group regardless of whether you are new to Gentle Healing or you would like to review Year 1.

Gentle Healing Year 2 will be facilitated by Anne Blanchard. It begins on February 19. It will be held each Tuesday morning beginning at 9am. The books needed for this group are The Holy Spirit’s Interpretation of the New Testament (NTI) and The Teachings of Inner Ramana. Gentle Healing Year 1 is a recommended prerequisite for this group, although people who have completed the ACIM workbook on their own are invited to join Gentle Healing Year 2. People who have completed Year 2 and would like a review may also join the group.

Gentle Healing Year 3 will be facilitated by Regina Dawn Akers. It begins on February 12. It will be held each Tuesday beginning at 8:30pm ET. The book needed for this group is The Seven Steps to Awakening. Gentle Healing Year 1 and Year 2 are prerequisites. We do not recommend Year 3 for anyone who has not completed Year 2, although Michael Langford’s committed students are invited to participate. It would be beneficial to attend the final Year 2 meeting on February 5 if you plan to begin Gentle Healing Year 3 on February 12, since the first Year 3 homework will be assigned on February 5.

Meditation & Mitigation: Meditate with Us & Volunteer to Help the Town of La Veta

January 2, 2019 By Regina Dawn Akers

Late June and early July, 2018, a fire burnt 109,000 acres around La Veta, Colorado. Vegetation was destroyed. The ground was scorched. Once a fire of this magnitude occurs in the mountains, major flooding is the next threat. Flood modeling shows that La Veta has a 100% chance of annual flooding over the next several years unless flood mitigation is implemented immediately.

La Veta Trails, a non-profit organization in La Veta, is organizing volunteers to participate in flood mitigation work between February 4 and March 31, 2019. We asked if it would be helpful if some of our members came and helped with this work for days at a time, and they answered, “Yes!”

That gave us an idea:

Meditation & Mitigation Retreats
February 24-March 1
and
March 24-29

Volunteer to help clear the Cucharas River channel of debris (limbs, overgrown plants and trash) in order to prevent/mitigate the flooding that is predicted following the Spring Fire of 2018. At this retreat, you will join with Regina Dawn Akers and other retreat participants for early morning inspiration and meditation; and then, following the spiritual advice of Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj, you will focus on the ‘I am’ presence throughout the day while volunteering for flood mitigation work with the town of La Veta. Each evening, retreat participants will join with Regina to discuss their experience of active meditation throughout the day.

Mitigation work will occur on Monday – Friday. Sunday is reserved for a day of contemplation, meditation and inspiration prior to beginning the volunteer work on Monday.

Retreat Fee: $0

Lodging Options and Rates

To register for a Meditation & Mitigation retreat, contact us.

Note: You may volunteer with the town of La Veta to help clear the Cucharas River channel anytime between February 4 and March 31. For more information, contact us.

The Awakening Together Retreat House is high on a hill and not in danger of flooding.

Not Too Late to Watch This Month’s Movie: Stranger Than Fiction

December 17, 2018 By Jacquelyn Eckert

Join us for Movie Watcher’s  Group on Sunday, December 23  at 8 pm ET / 5 pm PT.   This month’s movie is “Stranger Than Fiction,” starring Will Ferrell, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Emma Thompson and Dustin Hoffman. The movie is an endearing comedy about the spiritual transformation of a rigid, shy, and lonely I.R.S. agent whose life is upended when he begins to hear a narrator speaking inside his head.

Here is a link to the playsheet designed to assist with a Spirit centered movie watching experience: Stranger Than Fiction PlaySheet

The movie is available on Crackle (free to view),  Amazon, Itunes, Google Play, Itunes and Youtube.  Watch the movie with Spirit, then come and share your insights with the group.
