What is this class about?

Introduction to Sufi Thought is an interesting class where we will contemplate some of the 99 names of Allah; we will read some very funny but spiritually meaningful Sufi stories about the great fictional wise-fool, Mullah. We will also look at poetry by great Sufi mystics including Rumi, Kabir, Rabia, Abu Hamid Al-Ghazali, Attar and more. This is a wonderful opportunity to look at the heart of the Qu’ran through the eyes of those who have seen it clearest.

When & where does this class meet?

This class is facilitated by Regina Dawn Akers. It meets on Wednesday nights, from 7-9pm Pacific Time on the following dates: April 1, 8, 15, 29, May 6. Each class is two hours long. It is an interactive class that meets in a private room in PalTalk, so knowledge of how to use PalTalk is extremely helpful.

The class is 5 weeks long. There is no class on April 22 due to Regina’s travels.

How much does it cost?

The registration fee is $100.

What is the homework commitment?

Since the purpose of all Awakening Together classes is to help participants become Self-reliant with inner spiritual wisdom, participants will contemplate class material before coming to class. In class, participants share their experience with the contemplation and the facilitator sheds additional light on the material contemplated. Therefore, homework begins on March 26, one week before the first class meeting. There is homework 6 days per week throughout the 5-week class. It takes about 30 minutes per day to complete the daily devotional homework.

What book do I need to buy?

In addition to the workbook provided by Awakening Together when you register, a textbook is required. The participants must purchase the textbook from a book seller such as Amazon. The Textbook needed is The Sufi Book of Life by Neil Douglas-Klotz.

The First Class – Introduction to MPP

The first class is a free 2-hour class called Introduction to the Minister Preparation Program. It is a required class for anyone who wants to be a minister. We recommend the class for everyone who wants to take the program even if they think they aren’t interested in ordination. Some people change their mind after taking this class. You will learn all about the MPP Program including costs and requirements in this 2-hour Introduction class.

Introduction to MPP will be offered on Saturday morning, April 4 from 10am to noon Eastern time. (Please adjust for your time zone.)

MPP Phase I, True Discernment

After the Introduction to MPP class, you will be able to register for True Discernment. True Discernment is an eleven-week course. It will begin on Saturday, April 18. This class will also be scheduled from 10am-noon ET. The course will run through Saturday, June 27.

MPP Phase II

After you complete True Discernment, you can begin taking Phase II courses in any order. Phase II courses will be offered at three different times, and you will be able to take the class that best suits your schedule:

~ Tuesday evenings from 7:30-9:30 ET
~ Wednesday mornings from 10am-noon ET
~ Wednesday evenings, most likely from 7-9pm Pacific Time

How long does it take to complete MPP?

Most participants complete MPP in two years. However, you can take MPP at your own pace and may take up to five years to complete all of the requirements. Awakening Together is offering two Tao Te Ching classes, one on Tuesday evenings and one on Wednesday mornings. According to tradition, the Tao Te Ching was written around 6th century BC by Lao Tzu. The earliest manuscripts found are from the 4th century BC. This makes it one of the world’s most ancient written spiritual works.

Tao literally means the “way”. Te means “divine power.” Ching means “great book.” So the Tao Te Ching is a great book about the way of divine power.

Registration for Awakening Together’s Tao Te Ching class closes after March 10. There are two classes available for registration. You may take this 4-week class with Jacquelyn Eckert on Tuesday evenings from 7:30-9:30pm ET or you may take it with Nyki Dobson on Wednesday mornings from 10am-noon ET. The cost of the class is $80.

Awakening Together is offering a 4-week course on Jesus of the New Testament. In this class we will read the New Testament and contemplate it with clarity. You will be amazed at the richness of his teachings as you contemplate directly from the New Testament.

There is something about being alone with God … you and You … mind immersed in the heart in solitude.

On November 11, 2014 Awakening Together initiated a fundraising campaign so we can open a retreat center in Pueblo, Colorado. The purpose of the retreat center is to provide an environment where you can be alone with God…you and You. The retreat center will offer support. It will include a library, indoor and outdoor quiet space, room to walk, and more. There will be a caretaker available 24/7 providing meals and assistance. I will come and support you in whatever way may be helpful. There will also be times when workshops and Satsang will be offered at the retreat center.

We have set a fundraising goal of $450,000 for this campaign. When the money is raised, we will use it to buy a big house surrounded by natural beauty with plenty of space. That will be our retreat center.
