The Tao Te Ching is a Chinese spiritual classic. According to tradition, it was written around 6th century BCE by Chinese sage and governmental record-keeper, Lao Tzu.
Tao means “the way.” Te means “virtue” or “inner strength.” Ching means “great book” or “classic.” So, we can translate Tao Te Ching as “The Great Book of the Way’s Virtue.” However, “virtue” in this context does not refer to virtue as humans typically understand it. In fact, if humans really understood, embraced and lived the virtue of the Tao, appearances like conflict and lack would be impossible.
In this class you will:
1. The participant will become familiar with the classic Chinese work, Tao Te Ching.
2. The participant will contemplate chapters from Tao Te Ching and realize effective leadership.

Ego Preserves Itself By Misplacing Spiritual Teachings
When Michael Langford was a young seeker, he went to see spiritual teacher, Vernon Howard. He asked Vernon Howard if the purpose of his teachings was to end the ego. Vernon Howard answered, “Yes.” He also asked if Vernon’s teachings could be used to preserve the ego. Vernon Howard answered, “Yes, and you all do it.” Rev. Regina Dawn Akers discusses some of the ways spiritual teachings that are intended to help end the ego actually preserve the ego.

I love days like today. I have gotten to see so many of my flaws. Five of my major character flaws have come up today, and all of their associated feelings have bombarded me. I have been able to handle them all because today is so kind.
The day has given me life. It has woken me up this morning, it has breathed my breath, and it has beat my heart. I know I can handle anything on days like this. These kind of days support me, and they nourish me.
My character flaws are patterns of behavior and thinking that began when I was a child and that I have carried on into my adult life. They are thoughts that worry about approval, thoughts that are judgements, or thoughts of blame, fear, or anger. These thoughts all come from a time when I thought…
That days didn’t support me. That I had to wake myself up, that I had to breathe, and that I was responsible for pushing on through the day; Thought that I had to make it, and that I had to be strong and persevere. That was never the case. The days support me. They wake me up, breathe me, and they keep coming and going without my agency. They are strong, and they persevere. It’s days like this, like today, that I love.

Ellie Roozdar is an awakened teacher that Rick Archer, host of Buddha at the Gas Pump, has called “a finisher.” In other words, she joins with those who are ready for awakening and helps them to awaken. When we listen to Ellie without defenses, her clarity penetrates.
