“On the ‘mountaintop’ we receive new illumination, inspiration, and insight into the providing law… The thing to bear in mind is to take with you and hold on to all that you gain on the mountaintop of prayer, and not let go of it when you meet the thoughts and states of mind on the material plane that need to be spiritualized.” Myrtle Fillmore (Going into the Silence – Myrtle Fillmore’s Healing Letters)

“The most straightforward advice on awakening enlightened mind is this: practice not causing harm to anyone – yourself or others – and every day, do what you can to be helpful. Pema Chödrön (What to Do When the Going Gets Rough)

“To think that you will be happy by becoming something else is delusion. Becoming something else just exchanges one form of suffering for another form of suffering. But when you are content with who you are now – junior or senior, married or single, rich or poor – then you are free of suffering.” Ajahn Brahm (Who Ordered This Truckload of Dung? – Inspiring Stories for Welcoming Life’s Difficulties)

“The nature of greed is that it does not satisfy. It is an addiction. You want more and more and more. If something satisfied you, you wouldn’t need more.” Fr. Richard Rohr (“When it fails you…” homily Sept. 17, 2016)

Movie Discussion Group
Our next Movie Discussion Group will be this Sunday. The movie this month will be “Little Boy.” It is a movie about an eight-year-old boy who is willing to do whatever it takes to end World War II so he can bring his father home. The story reveals the indescribable love a father has for his little boy and the love a son has for his father. It is also a movie about faith. This movie selection was inspired by Brent Haskell’s talk at the Awakening Together Fall Retreat.

“Any intention, emotional, or cognitive impulse in us plants a seed in the storehouse that will cause a similar intention, emotion, or thought to arise in the future in the form of fruit. In each moment our experience is determined to a great extent by seeds from the past that are bearing fruit right now.” Ben Connelly (Cleaning Out the Storehouse)
